Railway, Skyrail and Koala cuddles!

Wow!  Another busy day.  We left our hotel about 8:30 this morning and headed for a ride on the Kuranda Scenic Railway which was established in 1891.

It was a beautiful ride, and we were able to hop off at Barron Falls to view the falls from the lookout platform. We could see the Barron Gorge Hydroelectric Station, Australia’s first underground power station.  We also stopped at the Red Bluff, which is the steepest part of the Barron Gorge’s mountainside.  We went through 15 hand carved tunnels.  At one point during construction, 8 tunnels were being worked on simultaneously!

At one point, we saw a drone flying around the gorge!

We then visited the village of Kuranda, where we strolled along, shopped at the Heritage Markets and enjoyed lunch.  We decided to try the kangaroo pies, which tasted a lot like beef.  But, before we had lunch, we enjoyed home made ice cream, since we had to wait for the pies to be baked.  We also had some delicious salted caramel crepes after lunch!  Thankfully we shared all this food.

We took the Kuranda Skyrail back down, getting off at Barron Falls Station and Red Peak Station for short walks where we saw some huge trees and pretty plants.  We even saw one of the famous blue butterflies

Once we returned to the hotel, we went and had our pictures taken holding a Koala Bear named Nellie.  Then, enjoyed a nice dinner.

Packed up tonight…must have suitcases out by 5 a.m. For 5:30 a.m departure!  So, Good night for now and God bless you!
