Days 11 & 12- Montreal & back to Lisbon, Maine!

We said good-bye to Canada bright and early, as we had reservations at 11 A.M. at the (Von) Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, Vermont, for a history tour.  We went through customs without any problem, and arrived at our destination by 10:45 A.M.

The family’s history was presented by a gentleman who has known the family since he was a young boy, so it was a very personal presentation.  He pointed out the things in the movie, The Sound of Music, and real life that were different. We saw the family cemetery which is on the property, watched a BBC documentary on Maria Von Trapp, and met a grandson, Sam, who answered questions and took pictures with guests.

On a side note, visiting the Von Trapp Family Lodge has been on my (Betty’s )“bucket list” for a long time.  I can tell you that it was a highlight for me.  I was surprised at how emotional I was…watching the “real” Maria on the documentary and hearing first hand what they went through was very touching.

Afterwards, we had lunch at one of the restaurants at the lodge and then took some pictures before leaving.

It rained the entire way back to Lisbon, but we made it without any problems, for which we were very grateful.

TUESDAY, 9/19/23

We didn’t have any real plans for today, as Nancy went to Urgent Care to have some x-rays from her fall on Sunday.  It turns out she has a fracture in her left elbow, but her hand, ribs and knee are all o.k. Other than being bruised really bad.

After lunch we decided to drive to Portland, Maine, as it is about 40 minutes from where we’re staying.  Once there, we mainly took a nice long walk, looking at the beautiful water, the sail boats, and cruise ships.

Made a Wal-Mart run on the way back and enjoyed Taco Soup for supper.
