Wellington!

This morning we had to say goodbye to our sweet friends, Diane and Bill Dore..  We had such a wonderful time with them and appreciate all they did to welcome us and show us around New Zealand.  We especially enjoyed meeting their family.  Now, they just need to visit Florida so we can show them around some, too!
We had an hour plane ride from Dunedin to Wellington and although the weather was somewhat cloudy when we landed, the sun DID come out.
We were met at the airport by our Airbnb Hostess, Susanna, who brought us to her home and then delivered us downtown where we visited the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa.  There was a very moving exhibition entitled “Gallipoli: The Scale of our War.”  It was all about New Zealand’s plight in World War I.  Sir Peter Jackson, the famous film maker (Lord of the Rings) was instrumental in providing the bigger than life figures which were very detailed.  It took almost two hours to go through and we both felt somewhat drained by the end.

We decided to take the Wellington Cable Car to the top for a gorgeous view of the harbor and Wellington.  We were once again thankful for blue skies and sunshine that allowed us the best view.

We also quickly visited the Cable Car Museum, as it closed shortly after our arrival.  Next we walked back to the City through the Botanic Gardens, enjoying the trees, flowers and scenery.  On the way down, we also passed by a very old cemetery.

We hopped on a bus and made our way back to Susanna’s via a very scenic route.  We stopped at

a Thai Restaurant in the neighborhood and had a very delicious dinner.

It was YUMMY!

This is our lovely Airbnb…

Whew!  Another full day.  Not sure what we will be doing tomorrow, so stay tuned and find out with us!  Good night and God Bless.

Enjoyed reading all about your last few days of your travels. Dunedin sounds like a lovely place to visit too. We had not seen it in our last travels. One day. Glad you are really enjoying your holiday. Sounds so much fun. I love NZ. You sure are being looked after by Diane and Bill. Please give them our best regards.
Take care and keep on having fun.
Tomorrow we start with renovation. Family room all with furniture. Removed carpet expect bedrooms. Will do that after floor is finished. Looking forward to the finished look.
Regards to both from Malcolm and I.
