Sunday in Queenstown

Glorious Sunday!  This morning we visited St.  Andrew’s Wakatipu Community Presbyterian Church.  We thoroughly enjoyed hearing God’s word being preached.  They even sang songs we are familiar with!  We received a very warm welcome and afterwards, they had tea and cookies and people were eager to chat and not in a hurry to leave.  It was very refreshing….we miss all our friends at Metro!!

We had heard of a neat restaurant right around the corner from the church that had really good Nachos, so decided to try them AND share an order for lunch

Afterwards, we went back to the hotel to “relax” (fold laundry, pack, write blog, insert pictures into blog…) and be ready to go to our “farewell Dinner” as we will all be going our separate ways tomorrow.

We visited Arrowtown, an original gold miners’ hub.  It is also the site where the Chinese settled in the late 1800’s.  They had a very hard life and there are still “houses” standing today.  They were no more than huts and many times several men lived together.  They came to New Zealand hoping to get enough money to return home to buy land in their country.  Unfortunately, many of them died before they could ever do so. They  took pride and pleasure in applying their traditional farming skills to produce vegetables, too,  which provided income when the return from gold mining declined.

We then went for our “Farewell” dinner with our tour Director, Isobel.  We ate at The Boathouse Restaurant which was only open for our group.  We had delicious meals and of course, desserts.

Good night and God bless.
