May 16 Cave and Falls day in King’s Canyon

First, we have to show a picture of the John Muir Lodge where we are staying!

Betty’s former boss, “Claude”, recommended it. Sure have been thankful for all of you who have given us advice!
So, after a wonderful breakfast at the Grant Grove Village Restaurant, we sought the advice of the Tourist Information Center for the next 2 days.
We took the Northern Route for today’s adventure. Our first turnout view was this

Then we got to the Junction View

Our first, real “stop” was the Boyden Cave. We learned that we were now in the deepest part of the Canyon. Compared to being at the Grand Canyon, we were even deeper down!

Our guide, Ranger Sandra, had just received her degree and this was her 4th tour. We admired the fact that she finally realized her dream!

We saw SOOO many formations, here are a few highlights! (BTW it was REALLY nice to be in the cool environment after a LONG, STEEP walk up for the tour!)

We made new friends again, a family. Deb and Dan are originally from Michigan, but have been in California for the past 7 years. We enjoyed visiting with them as we waited to go on the tour of the Cave.

From there, we stopped for our lunch. The restaurant has boxed lunches you can buy to take with you! We had a table with a view, and no waiting!

We went on to Roaring River Falls from there. MORE beauty!
These falls actually "roar down", and create a whirlpool at the end!

Then began our “Sunset Chase”. We had gotten directions of where to view the sunset, but had a hard time finding the exact location. We “settled” for this turnout, and were not disappointed.
